Iniesta-backed social platform announces blockchain update

Olyseum to incorporate crypto-technology in its fan engagement portal.

Olyseum, the platform founded by former Barcelona soccer stars Andrés Iniesta, Carles Puyol, and Iván de la Peña, has announced an upgraded, blockchain-powered app.

The updated app will launch later this year and be tested by some soccer fans starting this week. It is designed to let sportspeople set up a social feed and interact with fans with guidance and leadership from expert technologists, Carlos Grenoir and Kevin Mitnick. Olyseum security advisor Mitnick is a name that might be familiar, he is a computer security expert notorious for being one of the first high-profile hackers arrested back in the 1990s.

The upgrade announcement was timed to coincide with the 2018 Fifa World Cup, hoping to tap into both soccer enthusiasm and the sustained interest in all things crypto.

Platform co-founder and former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol said: "With the desire to expand the limits of real and genuine participation of fans, Andrés, Iván and I joined together to create a collaborative space for lovers of this beautiful sport and interact with users moved by the same feeling."

Olyseum is planning to introduce an incentive program powered by smart contracts for fans contributing to the community. These contributions will be rewarded in the form of exclusive merchandise, VIP tickets, and unique experiences with idols.

“The values of inclusion and collaboration are intrinsically linked to our platform, which will be underpinned by blockchain technology," added Grenoir.
