EVENT REVIEW: Cyber security dominates discussions on day one of IP EXPO Manchester

IP EXPO Manchester kicked off in Manchester Central today with a record breaking attendance and a staunch security reminder from keynote speaker Kevin Mitnick, the world’s most famous hacker.

Mitnick, who was formerly top of the FBI’s Most Wanted list, took to the stage in front of a packed audience, educating attendees on the modern realities of cyber security and social engineering, with live demonstrations of the latest hacking techniques and new cyber threats.

Cyber security education proved to be one of the most popular discussion areas at this year’s show, with additional sessions from Jenny Radcliffe – The People Hacker, Paul J Taylor of Greater Manchester Police, Mark Philips of Malwarebytes, James Burchell of Sophos and Paul Vlissidis of NCC Group all proving to be exceedingly popular with attendees.

Commenting on the opening of IP EXPO Manchester, Bradley Maule-ffinch, Director of Strategy for IP EXPO Manchester, said: “It’s our third year of bringing the IP EXPO series to Manchester and once again we have seen phenomenal turn out from the local technology and business community, truly reflecting Manchester’s thriving technology scene. We look forward to welcoming guests tomorrow for another day of standout speakers.”

Additional highlights from Day One at IP EXPO Manchester, which encompasses technology across six main themes – Cloud, Cyber Security, Networks & Infrastructure, AI, Analytics & IoT, DevOps and Open Source and included James Akrigg of Microsoft, who simplified how to use a mix of technologies to deliver solutions in today’s challenging business environments.
