2016 Cyber Convention & Expo to be Held Oct. 6 in Virginia Beach

Cybercrime costs the global economy more than $500 billion each year
The 2016 Virginia Cyber Convention & Expo will be held Oct. 6 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The expo will bring national cyber experts to explore numerous challenges and opportunities in cyberspace. This major industry event will explore and present practical information of direct use to individuals, businesses, and government agencies in creating and maintaining safe and secure practices to protect against cyber intrusion and hacking attacks.
Kevin Mitnick, the "World's Most Famous Hacker," is the keynote speaker. Mitnick will discuss techniques cyber criminals use to gain access to personal data. Many know him as founder and owner of KnowBe4, providing security awareness training for thousands of individuals and businesses. Other speakers include U.S. Senator Mark Warner; Admiral Bill Gortney, USN, Retired; Dr. Lance Hayden, managing director, Berkeley Research Group; Robert Cochran, cybercrime supervisor with the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Scott Schober, president & CEO of Berkeley Varitronics Systems; Heather Engel, executive vice president of Sera-Brynn; Darek Dabbs, chief information officer of Sera-Brynn, and many others in the cybersecurity industry.
Tickets are $200, $150 for military and $100 for the first 100 students, and registration is available at www.cprcv.org along with the complete agenda.
There will be 12 break-out sessions that include information on cyber threats, cyber educational opportunities in Virginia, cyber insurance, new legislation on cybersecurity, new contract languages regarding cybersecurity in Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, how hackers get into a network, and how to make your home or business hacker resistant.
Of particular interest in Coastal Virginia, a special session will be dedicated to providing the latest information concerning the new 160 terabyte/second undersea broadband fiber link connecting Bilbao, Spain with a landing site in Virginia Beach. A huge digital pipe managed by Microsoft and Facebook, and scheduled to become operational in mid-2017, will significantly increase the bandwidth capacity now existing between the U.S. and Europe.
